Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling and Psychotherapy: Your Journey to Well-being
Counselling and Psychotherapy are umbrella terms encompassing a variety of talking therapies. While Psychotherapy is often associated with longer-term exploration, and Counselling with shorter-term support, the reality is more fluid.
Many Therapists use both terms interchangeably, and the core skills and methods employed are similar. I generally describe myself as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
Ultimately, choosing a therapist is a personal decision. It's essential to find someone who's not only qualified, but who you feel comfortable sharing your experiences with. Someone you connect with. Someone you trust will be a supportive partner on your journey, understanding your unique perspective and needs. Your therapist should be a good match for your personality, communication style and preferences.
Maybe you'll think I fit that criteria?
My role is to provide a safe space for you to understand yourself and your relationships better. I offer a non-judgemental listening ear, empathy, and support without offering unsolicited advice.

Therapy: A Journey of Self-Discovery
Therapy offers a structured space for individuals to delve deep into the intricate workings of their minds. It provides a platform to explore the complex interplay of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that shape our experiences.
By fostering a safe and supportive environment, therapy empowers individuals to examine the underlying reasons for their patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
Through therapeutic exploration, individuals can uncover the roots of their emotional responses, trace the origins of self-limiting beliefs, and identify the behavioural patterns that might be hindering their personal growth.
This process of introspection can lead to profound insights and a deeper understanding of oneself. As self-awareness grows, individuals are better equipped to challenge negative thought patterns, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and cultivate more fulfilling relationships.
Ultimately, therapy serves as a catalyst for personal transformation.
By shedding light on the unconscious factors influencing our lives, individuals can gain control over their narratives and make conscious choices that align with their values and aspirations.
I won’t tell you what to do but instead will support you and - where appropriate - use guidance, psychoeducation or suggest alternative approaches to help you find your own solutions – whether that's for healing, making effective changes or for learning how to cope.
And to reassure you, you don’t have to be in, or on the verge of crisis, before choosing to start therapy. Some people just feel sad or dissatisfied with their life, or are seeking more balance.
